BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P XB ENERGY CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION Department of the P RENEWABLE ACQUISITION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. 

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Provides support to the Manager, Energy Contract Administration and the Energy Contract Management and Energy Procurement Departments in negotiating and administrating Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and/or policies with Independent Power Producers for Hawaiian Electric on Oahu, Hawaii Island and Maui County. Manages the computerized systems for the Energy Contract Managers (ECMs) to effectively manage their power purchase projects from conceptualization/inception through negotiations, approvals, construction, commercial operation, and closing of projects. Tracks progress and ensures that resources are used effectively to meet scheduled milestone dates and approved budgets, while maintaining compliance with all required processes (e.g., SOX). Ensures that ECMs comply with all reporting requirements. Develops, manages, and enhances project hierarchies, PPA spreadsheets (e.g., invoicing, checklists, etc.), and work management interfaces and processes. Develops and documents project management procedures and assists and provides training for ECMs and project team members in these procedures.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops, manages, and enhances project processes in order to meet project deadlines and support Division activities including, project hierarchy development, opening of internal and external work orders, authorizations, PUC submittals and approvals, etc.
  • Maintains contracts or projects accounting records in electronic and paper forms.  Reconciles invoices, assists with resolution of discrepancies, and processes payments in accordance with contractual agreements, and monitors power purchase generation performance. Tabulates costs, prepares, and submits invoices, processes payments received, and updates accounting records for projects or contracts. Issues monthly purchased power data to various end users in the Company. Enhances invoicing processes to streamline and automate monthly activities.
  • Leads, directs, and manages project team to ensure that projects are completed on time and in accordance with key milestone schedules. Coordinates with ECMs for updates to project schedules and reporting of schedule variances.
  • Manages Energy Contract Administration Division data system, ensuring timely retrieval and transmittal of critical data in accordance with contractual agreements. Develops and maintains on-line Contract Management Procedures Manual website. Advises, monitors, and facilitates the training of ECMs and others in these procedures.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of software applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, UI Planner, SAP, SQL, statistical programs (e.g., Python, R), visualization tools (e.g., Power BI), etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of Hawaiian Electric cost reporting and budgeting process.
  • Thorough knowledge of matrix project management systems and critical path scheduling using the standard software program.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence, motivate and persuade various groups or individuals.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to conceptualize new ideas quickly.
  • In depth analytical and computational skills to analyze and recommend changes to database programs and processes to effectively manage projects. Ability to code using Excel macros, visualization software, or statistical programs to automate and streamline tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive/confidential matters and materials discreetly and professionally.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Several years (3-5) experience utilizing project management techniques.
  • A few years (1-2) of office experience in legal and/or administration areas.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Project Analyst [Req ID 7983] position is 73,500.00 to 93,800.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications. The hiring supervisor is CHERISH M BALGOS.
