BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P IX WAIAU STATION MAINTENANCE Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Installs and maintains power plant mechanical equipment.

 

FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

Machinist Mechanic 1st Year/Machinist Mechanic Thereafter

  • Performs operational or overhaul mechanical maintenance on power plant equipment such as pumps, turbines, compressors, fans and generators under direction or direct supervision, in accordance with skill level attained.
  • Works from blueprints, sketches, instruction manuals and written or oral instructions.
  • Installs new and reconditioned equipment.
  • Aligns and balances all types of rotating equipment.
  • Performs necessary rigging for assigned work.
  • Works with electricians in dismantling, inspecting and repairing generators, exciters and motors.
  • Services and repairs lubricating oil systems.
  • Uses and repairs all precision hand tools and power operated tools.
  • Trains to perform and performs machining work under direction.
  • Operates material handling equipment as required.
  • Records a description of work completed.
  • Directs the work of personnel in lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
  • Reports equipment problems that may be observed.
  • Performs minor non-asbestos insulation removal incidental to the performance of maintenance tasks.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

 

Machinist

  • Performs mechanical maintenance and machining on all power plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs rotating equipment problems.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, boring mills, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, metal disintegrator, large diameter pipe prepping tools, etc.
  • Devises, sets up and operates field machining tools as required.
  • Performs precision machining work.
  • Aligns and balances all types of rotating equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of properties and use of metals.
  • Directs the work of and trains personnel of lower classifications on any or all of the above operations.
  • Works from blueprints, sketches, instruction manuals and written or oral instructions.
  • Performs necessary rigging for assigned work.
  • Works with electricians in dismantling, inspecting and repairing generators, exciter and motors.
  • Services and repairs lubricating oil systems.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.  Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.  These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

 

Machinist

  • Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test.
  • Graduate of applicable HECO Apprenticeship Program or equivalent training and experience.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.  Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.  These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Must pass Job Qualification Test.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Work Hours: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

Lunch: 30 Minutes

Location: HECO Waiau Generating Station – Oahu

Wage: 45.2351.29
