Summer Internship Program

Hawaiian Electric is committed to providing college students an opportunity to learn and grow within their field of study. Our internship program is designed to allow students the ability to gain coveted professional experience and industry knowledge.

Our Summer Program:

  • Paid full-time internship
  • Eligible for benefits offerings
  • 1:1 Mentorship pairing
  • Individual summer project
  • Regular events with intern class

Our Summer 2025 Program will offer two sessions to accommodate academic schedules:

  • Session One: June 2, 2025 - Aug. 14, 2025
  • Session Two: June 16, 2025 - Aug. 14, 2025

To apply for the 2025 Summer Internship Program at Hawaiian Electric:

We are now accepting official eTranscript submissions for Summer 2025. Official eTranscripts must come directly from your institution's Registrar.

You may have an official eTranscript sent electronically via your Registrar's service such as Parchment or Student Clearinghouse in advance of your application. Address the Registrar eTranscript request to the Workforce Planning Department at: HRWorkforcePlanning@hawaiianelectric.com. For Summer 2025, we will accept applications from students graduating no earlier than December 2025.

If you have financial constraints that prohibit you from obtaining an official copy, please contact us. We cannot consider your application without a digital copy of your transcript.

We are continuing to review all available positions and will post them in our Careers portal. We will update this page once postings are live. We will accept applications on a rolling basis and expect to close applications in mid-December, based on volume. Our internship offerings change year to year, and while the bulk of our positions are located on Oahu, we offer select internships on the neighbor islands when available.

2025 Summer Internship Eligibility:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, and will be continuing in the Fall semester (or quarter) of 2025
  • Able to provide proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university
  • Authorized to work in the United States

  • Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil/Structural)
  • Information Technology and Cybersecurity
  • Accounting/Finance/Auditing
  • Human Resources
  • Marketing/Communications
  • Safety or Emergency Planning & Preparedness
  • Other related majors
