BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The H RM SUBSTATION & METER METER Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt) 

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled work under direct or indirect supervision.  Assists personnel of higher classifications in the construction, installation, maintenance and operations of Company facilities in order to acquire necessary knowledge for indentureship in the trade.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs routine tasks under direct or indirect supervision.  Assists personnel of higher classifications in their regularly assigned tasks in order to acquire necessary knowledge for indentureship in the trade (use of checklist).
  • Drives Company vehicles.  May drive a truck carrying personnel and/or materials.  If qualified, operates trucks or equipment of a higher classification
  • Lifts and carries materials, tools and equipment.
  • Uses hand tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, pliers, punches, wrenches, etc.
  • Uses power tools such as electric/pneumatic drills, guns, impact wrenches, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • May be required to obtain Class 4 State of Hawai'i driver's license.
  • If required to obtain Class 4 State of Hawai'i driver's license, must obtain Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Must pass Job Sample Test.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.
  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH).
  • Must pass the Berger Aptitude for Programming (BAPT) test
  • Must possess a two-year degree (A.S.) in Electronics Technology, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Technology, or similar program, or have equivalent work experience as an electrician or communications technician.
  • Must possess basic computer literacy in email, spreadsheets, and documents. Literacy level is determined by testing.
  • Must possess basic electricity knowledge. Knowledge level is determined by Company written test.
  • Must possess basic math skills. Skill level is determined by Company written test.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.
