BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The T&D OPERATIONS Department of the T&D OPERATIONS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company is currently establishing an applicant pool, from which qualified applicants may be considered for a full-time Electric Quality Control Expert position vacancy on Oahu, Maui, or Hawaii Island. Additional information will be provided after applications are reviewed.

JOB FUNCTION:

Conducts field assessments of Hawaiian Electric’s facilities and internal resources and leads teams to ensure we have the right tools, equipment, and work standards to complete work in a safe and efficient manner. Inspects and verifies the quality of construction work to ensure compliance with standards. Regularly travels to various work sites within the state.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Travels to various work locations to conduct field assessments to  ensure the safety of our personnel; ensure personnel are trained and have the tools and equipment to do the job safely and efficiently; support and train personnel on technical standards, safety procedures, policies and practices, standard operating procedures and other work practices related to worker safety and work processing.
  • Partners with the Standards team to ensure we utilize the safest and most efficient means to construct T&D facilities.
  • Inspects and verifies the quality of the construction work performed by Hawaiian Electric crews including emergency and planned Electric Corrective (EC) tickets ensuring all work is done in compliance with HECO Construction Standards.
  • Audits completed supervisor work packages; ensures all jobs are properly closed out and supporting documentation is accounted for.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • High School or GED Diploma; Bachelor’s degree in related discipline, or a combination of experience and education preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of electric utility regulatory requirements to complete thorough reviews and analysis of T&D construction work.  Prepares comprehensive reports with suggested recommendations for leadership.
  • Expert knowledge of standard tools used in construction work to be able to identify tools, standards and equipment needed to make the work environment safe and efficient.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, company specifications, and federal, state, and local requirements to perform inspections evaluating quality of work by construction crews.
  • Graduate of an approved USDOL Electrical Lineman apprenticeship or equivalent training; candidates will be required to provide documentation of apprenticeship completion.
  • Preferred American Society for Quality (ASQ) Quality Improvement Specialist or Certified Quality Auditor certifications.
  • Preferred Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Preferred Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) certification.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Must be an effective communicator with advanced communication skills to determine appropriate content for target audience. Conveys findings and recommendations seeking buy in on recommendations. Develops new methods for communicating issues, concerns, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability in coaching personnel and facilitating/conducting on the job training. May handle questions regarding more complex verification situations. Is a technical resource for T&D supervisors and crew foreman.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a State of Hawaii Class 3 driver’s license at a minimum. Must meet the standards for frequent driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Ability to facilitate post verification review meetings. Summarizes and presents complex findings to leaders.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues and tints.
  • Ability to learn computer/technology skills (iPad, Excel, Power Point, Word, Teams, SAP, email etc.).

 

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience (8 or more years) of related business experience in Electrical Utilities Transmission and Distribution or closely related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of Journeyman Lineman level work experience ideally leading crews.
  • Several years (3-5) experience in T&D Construction Inspector, Trouble Inspector and/or conducting root cause investigations. (ideal)
