The P CS CUSTOMER ENGINEERING 1 ADMIN Department of the P CUSTOMER ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Lead design of all new policies, processes, standard operating procedures, other standards, or operational plans for major Engineering improvement initiatives spanning operating companies, process areas, divisions and departments to enable the Division to effectively execute and manage capital projects, programs and day-to-day operations. Uses mastery of improvement systems and engineering knowledge to lead the identification and resolution of improvements using significant research, conceptualization, reasoning, and interpretation.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Leads design of new policies, processes, and procedures with a significant impact on departmental or divisional results. Influences business decisions made by leadership across process areas, operating companies and multiple divisions.  Represents the division in cross-functional process discussions and acquires the needed subject matter experts.  Responsible to maintain all active Engineering policies, processes and procedures.
  • Develops solutions to problems and execution gaps by drawing upon best practices, expertise, and leadership.  Leads improvements in existing processes and systems and guides development of new processes and systems using significant research, conceptualization, reasoning, and interpretation.  Engages with internal and external stakeholders to disseminate information, address concerns, obtain approvals and resolve project-related problems.
  • Interacts with internal and external stakeholders and vendors at various levels on matters with direct impact to an operating company, division and/or department.  Negotiate with others to reach understanding or agreement.  Conduct briefings with senior leaders.
  • Prepares and conducts training of policies, processes and procedures for employees in the division. 
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
  • Understands the Company’s Policies, Mission, Vision, Values, and are following the culture dimensions to ensure the success of the company.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

•   A Bachelor’s degree in business, project management, engineering, or a related field or equivalent is required; Advanced training in business administration is desirable.

•   Mastery level knowledge of the current culture and environment at the Hawaiian Electric Companies typically acquired by working with many cross-functional teams within the companies.

•   Extensive knowledge of Lean thinking principles and best practices to achieve customer experience excellence including the Lean Foundation, deployment systems, continuous improvement, enterprise alignment and business results typically acquired through formal training. Able to obtain Certified Lean Sensei or Black Belt.

•   Thorough knowledge of project management standards and methodologies, including initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects, developing work breakdown structures, tracking progress and status, managing scope, mitigating risk, etc., typically acquired through formal training.  Able to obtain Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

•   Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (i.e. SOX, PUC, etc.).

•   Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, and ability to learn additional software tools to perform work.

•   Working knowledge and understanding of the application of the Tariff, Electric Service Installation Manual, Engineering Construction Standards and Practices, distribution design criteria, revenue metering, national electric code, and engineering standard practice processes and procedures..

•   Working knowledge of Engineering policies, processes, standard operating procedures.

•   Working knowledge of City, State and Federal laws and regulations as related to the placement of electric facilities along public rights of way, and cost sharing.

•   Thorough knowledge of Company policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, Code of Conduct etc.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills for such tasks as preparing and monitoring program/project requirements, resolving cost and time constraints, and conflicting priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening, analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution communication skills.
  • Organizational and planning skills to handle various projects/assignments with different objectives, deliverables and completion schedules.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent or required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.  These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.

 

Experience Requirements

•   Multiple (5 or more) years experience in the planning and/or design of electric utility systems including serving customers, or equivalent.

•    Viewed as a key expert and/or resource within field by those within the company.

•    Several (3) years experience in any combination of the areas of Customer Service, Energy Delivery, and Information Technology (including SAP solution) areas in the regulated electric utility business to ensure working knowledge of the business area.

•    Supervisory experience is desirable.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Customer Engineering Sr Program Manager [Req ID 9880] position is $107,700.00 to $139,800.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
