The P TF CUSTOMER ENGINEERING 2 ADMIN Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)



Directs, monitors and manages work activities related to distributed rooftop generations that impact the secondary distribution system and existing secondary issues including the Company's revenue meters.  Provides leadership, expertise, guidance, and support to the outside contractors and consultants and customer installation department to ensure timely and cost effective completion of all work assignment.



  • Administers and determines priority of work processes; directs and monitors the activities, programs; and provides technical direction and support to the Customer Installations Department. Assists with field problems.
  • Coordinates work processes internally with other departments and divisions and externally with developers, contractors, consultants, government agencies, other joint pole members and individual customers to ensure all committed service or completion dates are met.
  • Directs, monitors and manages all consultant/contractor work activities on the Company's system. Prepares scope of work for consultants/contractors. Requisitions materials and schedules pick-up/drop-off date and times. Performs regular site inspections to monitor work activities and ensure quality control and compliance with Hawaiian Electric Company standards, National Electric Code and Hawaiian Electric Company Electric Service Installation Manual.
  • Investigates customer complaints (internal or external) in areas including but not limited to, quality of workmanship; plan or design execution issues; differences between design and field condition; and failure to follow schedules and/or procedures. Identifies and recommends solutions for complaint resolution.
  • Responsible for coordinating all safety training for contractors. Provides specific training and schedules refresher training on an as-needed basis.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.



Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the theories and principles of Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Thorough knowledge and understanding of the application of the Tariff, Electric Service Installation Manual, Engineering Construction Standards and Practices, distribution design criteria, revenue metering, national electric code, and engineering standard practice processes and procedures..

  • Working knowledge of City, State and Federal laws and regulations as related to the placement of electric facilities along public rights of way, and cost sharing.
  • Successful completion of a supervisory training course or equivalent.
  • Thorough knowledge of Company policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, Code of Conduct etc.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.).
  • Working knowledge in LEAN continuous principles and practices desired.

  • Excellent  written, verbal, listening, analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution communication skills.
  • Organizational and planning skills to handle various projects/assignments.
  • Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with difficult, motivational, sensitive, or confrontational issues. Ability to resolve conflicts through active communication, negotiation and coordination.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license to accomplish on-site inspections. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.  These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.


Experience Requirements

  • Experience (5 or more years) in the planning and/or design of electric distribution systems, including customer service systems or its equivalent.
  • Experience in revenue power metering and field installation.
  • LEAN continuous principles and practices and/or Six Sigma certification is preferred.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the CUST INST PGR MGR [Req ID 8351] position is 84,000.00 to 107,200.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
