JOB FUNCTION:

Leads the team that delivers world-class information technology products and services to the rest of Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, Hawaii Electric Light, and HEI.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds effective partnerships with client organizations at all levels. Learns the challenges and aspirations of client organizations and seeks opportunities to help them excel through the use of information technology. Assists in the formulation and refinement of HEI, Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, Hawaii Electric Light, and IT strategies. Leads the formulation of goals for ITS, based on those defined strategies. Communicates established strategies to the ITS team. Assesses performance results against strategic goals. Refines goals, policies, processes and projects to improve the attainment of strategic success.  Participates in the IT governance process.
  • Leads the conception, definition and implementation of ITS policies and business processes to support our clients’ business processes. Leads the definition and management of on-going operations to achieve goals. Leads the definition, measurement and evaluation of key performance indicators (KPIs) for operations. Improves operations based on measurements and assessments.
  • Identifies and charters projects to improve our support for our clients’ business processes and otherwise achieve the organization’s goals. Leads ITS’ participation in enterprise-wide projects and other initiatives. Ensures that ITS projects, and ITS’ elements of enterprise projects are well-managed. Provides counsel to client management on the conduct of enterprise projects.
  • Designs and refines the structure of the ITS organization to best carry out its processes and projects. Determines the appropriate nature and quantity of staff required to perform the defined work effectively and efficiently. Leads the development of ITS budgets and tactical plans, and their implementation.
  • Leads the development of the ITS team, which includes but is not limited to recruitment, performance management, employee development, and succession planning.  Personally leads the ITS leadership team, consisting of the manger’s direct reports, and others as designated. Cultivates mentoring relationships with more junior ITS members to assist with their professional development, and to identify candidates for future opportunities.
  • Builds the effective relationships with partners and suppliers, both internal and external to Hawaiian Electric. Leads the selection of external partners and suppliers, the development of agreements with them, and the establishment and measurement of performance metrics. Leads the process of managing product and service agreements, including the improvement of performance and value over time.
  • Oversees the overall Enterprise system support organization, including technical and functional SAP teams to ensure efficiency, effective management and maximized capability of the system to meet the company’s strategic goals.  Enable the SAP application operations and application development groups to operate as a well-functioning team. Oversee the planning and budgeting of SAP and other system initiatives.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of information technology, including computers, printers, collaboration software and equipment, servers, networking, cloud services provisioning, Internet technology, and data center operations, ; working knowledge of telephony systems including voice-over-IP and wireless technologies is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations and establishing and providing service level goals. 
  • Working knowledge in managing an IT service desk and providing call and ticket metrics to meet or exceed efficiency and customer service goals.
  • Working knowledge of the major elements of the electric utility business, especially in a regulated environment, is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of computers and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, e-mail, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of corporate planning, budgeting, and control principles and practices; Knowledge in context of the utility business is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement; Accident Prevention Manual; General Information Manual, and similar documentation, is desirable.

Experience Requirements

  • Ten or more years of experience in the management of service organizations, preferably involving information technology or the regulated utility business.  
  • Five or more years of experience in the management of managers, preferably involving information technology or the regulated utility business.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, information systems, business or an equivalent is highly desirable.  Advanced training in business administration is highly desirable.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the DIR, ITS [Req ID 8905] position is $133,200.00 to $173,200.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
