BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P BD SUBSTATION ENGINEERING Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. This posting seeks to fill at either the Drafting Technician I or Drafting Technician II; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate. (Role: Non-Exempt)

Drafting Technician I

JOB FUNCTION:

Does drafting in connection with additions to and changes in the physical facilities of the Company using CADDS and manual drafting methods as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interprets drawings, sketches, and written or verbal instructions and prepares detailed drawings for shop fabrication or field installations.
• Makes field investigations (takes measurements, notes physical conditions) and obtains drawings/specifications and other information for the preparation of drawings.
• Learns to prepare material lists and take-offs.
• Makes maps, graphs, and charts.  Does special lettering and sign work.
• Makes calculations using adding machines, calculators, computers, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
• Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have completed a two-year drafting course at the community college level or equivalent.
• Must be able to pass the Company CADDS and manual job performance test.
• Must have a minimum of two years full-time electrical, structural or mechanical drafting experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Hawaii or another U.S. state. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety needs.
• Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints.

Drafting Technician II

JOB FUNCTION:

Does drafting in electrical, structural, or mechanical area in connection with additions to and changes in the physical facilities of the Company using CADDS and manual drafting methods.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interprets drawings, sketches, manufacturers’ literature, and written or verbal instructions and prepares detailed drawings for shop fabrication or field installations.
• Makes field investigations (takes measurements, notes physical conditions); gathers field data and obtains drawings/specifications and other information for preparation of drawings.
• Makes layouts and prepares design details under supervision.
• Prepares material lists and makes material take-offs.
• Makes maps, graphs, and charts.  Does special lettering and sign work.
• Maintains engineering records.
• Makes calculations using adding machines, calculators, computers, etc.
• Makes material-cost comparisons.
• Compiles engineering data, as directed, for studies, reports, audits, etc.
• Assists designer, engineer and supervisor in training lower classified drafting technicians.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs duties of a lower classification as required.
• Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
• Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

• Must be able to pass the CADDS and manual drafting performance test in the specific area where the vacancy lies (electrical, or structural, or mechanical).

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday

Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Location: Honolulu  – Oahu

Wage: Drafting Technician I: $41.93; Drafting Technician II: $45.20
