BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P FS SAFETY OAHU Department of the P SAFETY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)
JOB FUNCTION:
Under direct or indirect supervision, regularly inspects, maintains, and/or repairs the Company’s fire fighting systems, extinguishers and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Applies basic knowledge of the types and uses of various fire fighting systems and extinguishers.
- Regularly inspects, tests, maintains, and/or repairs fire fighting systems, extinguishers, alarms and equipment.
- Checks weight, type and other necessary requirements of fire fighting equipment as required by applicable fire codes.
- Assists with recordkeeping and maintains HiOSH and HFD files relevant to equipment and systems.
- Assists with employee training sessions such as fire safety, fire brigade, underground network fire response, proper use of related equipment, etc.
- May drive truck carrying personnel and/or equipment.
- Responds to fire and related emergencies including power plant, office and network system emergencies.
- Lifts and carries materials, tools and equipment.
- Maintains fire related equipment on fire van, command van and fire trucks.
- Utilizes various office equipment such as copiers, facsimile, computers & related software,
- printers, etc. to perform the duties/responsibilities of the position.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
- Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a two (2) year Fire Science A.S. Degree or equivalent on-the-job experience or other equivalents.
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete Independent Course Study (ICS) course in Basic Electricity within one (1) year. (See Letter of Acknowledgement)
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete Electrical Safety classes within one (1) year. (See Letter of Acknowledgement)
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
- Must be able to obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
- Must pass Job Sample Test.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
- Must have or be able to obtain applicable fire equipment and system licenses to qualify for the Thereafter Rate.
