The P EY QUALITY INTEGRATION & DATABASE SVCS Department of the P SOFTWARE APPLICATION SVCS Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Perform development, documentation, implementation, and operation of quality assurance standards and measures for technical and functional system changes.  Perform , manage, and establish Quality Assurance processes to ensure software applications and/or hardware platforms meet defined business requirements through manual and/or automated testing.  Gather, analyze, and report/present data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and system requirements.  Includes writing scripts for tracking defects and fixes in software application development and implementation, installation of new/replacement hardware, and operating systems.  Apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate processes through careful testing in order to maximize the business investments in information technology initiatives.  Create data inside QA environments for testing purposes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Identify problems with the software and/or hardware projects, enhancements, and/or defect fixes and their design.  Create, develop, design, and maintain detailed test scenarios.  Develop and implement functional, performance, stress, integration, sequence, and regression tests.  Contribute to testing efforts by presiding over them and/or assisting in a hands-on role.  Ensure test plans/scripts are followed.  Document test activity.  Review and check test cases for accuracy.  Prepare reports on problems that arise during testing.  Audit reports to verify integrity of system and process operation.  Automate tests where appropriate.
  • Interpret and document error reports from system users.  Track reported problems with system and processes.  Prepare evaluation test reports.
  • Maintain, patch, configure, administer, and operate tools and applications associated with quality assurance processes.  Participate in the code migration process, in some cases up to the final approver in terms of what is transported into production environments.  Serve as a testing subject matter expert in terms of tools owned and operated by the company along with a familiarity of competing products on the market.  Work with internal and external auditors to create, modify, retire, and/or explain IT QA controls.  Collect and disseminate information necessary to comply with SOX and other audits.
  • Support the development and implementation of new QA processes for the department.  Remain familiar with QA tools, processes, and best practice in the industry, using said knowledge for continuous improvement purposes.
  • Remain available for both scheduled and unscheduled work.  Said work is occasionally required outside normal business hours and on weekends.  Other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles of information, data and office technology management normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of the major elements of the electric utility business, especially in a regulated environment.
  • Extensive or advanced knowledge of one or more technical disciplines ranging from Unix, client-server/multi-tier, and/or workstation/PC/Internet technologies and systems development.
  • Ability to document and execute an integrated test plan and a user acceptance test plan
  • Working knowledge of SAP Customer Information System.
  • Thorough knowledge of business process improvement and process engineering concepts.
  • Working knowledge of the role of information systems in the enterprise is desirable.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and related software, prepare reports, create reporting systems, communicate via the internet, and evaluate and implement new software or software enhancements.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic planning, quality engineering, data processing, and security concepts and techniques normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and persuade various groups or individuals.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both verbal and written, normally gained through experience, training, and the exercise of “innate” abilities. 
  • Analytical and conceptual skills to assess issues, to recommend and implement appropriate actions.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, confidential, difficult or confrontational issues.
  • Excellent communication skills required to document and report on defects and other software issues
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Experience with application testing automation tools (e.g. Load Runner, Quality Center, etc.)

 

Experience Requirements

  • (5 or more years) programming/support experience in a computing environment (e.g. client-server/multi-tier Unix or Windows platforms) using one or more of the languages and techniques employed at HECO.
  • Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience in the customer service (preferred) and/or other operational areas in the regulated electric utility business desired.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, computer science, engineering, or a related field or equivalent; Advanced training in business administration is desirable.
  • 3+ years experience in a Quality Assurance Development or Functional role
  • Knowledge of the systems management industry an asset

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Quality Assurance Analyst [Req ID 9456] position is $76,500.00 to $97,600.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
