BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P CD CREDIT Department of the P REVENUE MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available.  (Role: Professional)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for the recovery of monies owed to the company to maximize cash flow, reduce bad debt and provide support and other services to increase customer satisfaction. Develops processes and guidelines for Customer Service Revenue Management Department work practices and procedures.  Analyzes special request and negotiates payment arrangements.  Responsible for providing accurate, timely and effective financial information, analysis, recommendation and administrative services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with Hawaiian Electric Companies, Commercial and Residential customers.  Provides support and other services to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Provides assistance to commercial and residential customers to resolve complex, unique or unusual billing and payment concerns.  Leads negotiation efforts to establish payment arrangements for large delinquent balances.
  • Investigates, analyzes and resolves system application issues by applying knowledge of application functionality and associated business processes.  Interacts effectively with business units to ensure changes meet business and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the company’s strategic plans, policies and helps develop processes for commercial and residential customers to increase overall customer satisfaction.
  • Processes the companies Subpoena requests and ensures accurate data is transmitted.  Collaborates with the Legal Department and outside counsel on complex bankruptcies for residential and commercial customers for the companies.  Reviews and acts upon all court documents and proposed plans to ensure maximum recovery for the companies.  Processes probates, receiverships and foreclosure documents.  Ensures recovery of debt by filing court documents by the court appointed date.  Represents the companies in court in the absence of Credit Supervisor (Custodian of Records).
  • Prepares monthly Sarbanes –Oxley (SOX) bankruptcy reports for the companies to ensure accuracy and proper financial forecasting. 
  • Leads the effort to ensure large commercial accounts are secured.  Analyzes and identifies potential financial risk and reviews financial statements.  Negotiates and obtains utility bonds, letters of credit, personal guarantees and cash deposits on commercial accounts.  Researches and analyzes various reports in order to accurately determine risk.
  • Leads efforts to collect or recommend disconnection for residential and commercial customers with returned payments.  Executes disconnection orders to Field Service.  Coordinates disconnections with the Public Utilities Commission (“PUC”), our Field Services Division, and/or Meter Division.  Provides exceptional customer service for our life support, elderly and handicap residential customers, non-utility, and government accounts.  Performs field visits as needed.
  • Responsible for collections on all delinquent accounts including past 3 months APUA (Accumulated Provision for Uncollectable Accounts).  Prepares commercial accounts for collections and coordinates legal collections with our internal and external legal counsel.  Prepare commercial and residential accounts for external collection agencies and credit counseling services.
  • Resolves the companies’ related PUC customer service complaints and Better Business Bureau (BBB) customer service complaints.
  • Builds effective partnerships across the Hawaiian Electric Companies and Process Areas focused on joint problem solving and collaboration.  Manages customer situations to achieve the proper balance between the companies and the customer’s interest.
  • Facilitates, manages and audits quarterly FACTA transactions for the companies and ensures the companies comply with Federal laws.  Researches and analyzes processes and resolves potential risk issues.
  • Investigates, analyzes, reports and resolves fraudulent commercial and residential accounts.  Communicates effectively with the supervisor to ensure the commercial and residential customer’s information is secure.  Responsible for negotiating payments for customers who have been investigated by our Revenue Protections Department to ensure full recovery of the delinquent balance.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities, as assigned, including any activities to prepare for such emergency response.   Other duties as assigned.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems.  Demonstrated proficiency in using PC software programs (spreadsheets, word processing, database, presentations and graphics) for fairly complex applications.
  • Working knowledge of Systems Application Product (SAP)
  • Advanced knowledge of Bankruptcy Laws, Probate Laws and Credit and Collection practices and laws.
  • Working knowledge of payment processes and billing processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of consumer credit bureau reports and report interpretation skills.
  • Working knowledge of utility rate structures and calculations, tariff and utility operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of business analysis, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of business process analysis and modeling techniques for assessing organizational performance and process/performance management standards and methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of organization change management best practices, concepts and approaches.
  • Working knowledge of Accurint, Dun and Bradstreet and Credit Reports.
  • Proven track record for leading cross-functional joint-problem solving and collaboration.

Experience Requirements

  • Multiple years (5-7) of professional experience in customer service, communication, account management, utility operations or related fields including experience in performing analytical and/or technical consulting work with direct customer contact and conflict resolution 
  • Multiple years (5-7) experience in Payment Processing, Billing, Meter reading and Customer Field Services preferred.
  • Several years (3-5) related experience in small claims, court processes and filings; FACTA and credit reporting agencies (i.e., Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) preferred.
