BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P QJ SUBSTATION & METER OPERATIONS ADMIN Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Manages all division activities relating to the installation, testing, and maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) hardware, communication system, and protective relaying in order to ensure cost effective and reliable service. while fulfilling the Company's goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises, directs, coordinates, and monitors the activities of the division to ensure appropriate planning/scheduling of work to safely install, test, and maintain the EMS and SCADA hardware, including the UPS, Remote Terminal Units (RTU), voltage regulation controls, analog and digital equipment, power quality investigations, etc.; responsible for the communication system in microwave and fiber optics, portable and vehicle radios, radio frequency investigations, etc.; also responsible for the protective relays for the electrical system and HECO generators, as well as all relaying and testing for the system automatic transfers.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, administration and enforcement of safety practices and procedures for work performed. Prepare strategic and tactical plans with associated continuous improvement initiatives to meet Company's goals and objective.
  • Manages and administers all division personnel matters including performance appraisals and interviews; recognition of employee achievements; contract issues, and disciplinary actions.
  • Serves on various committees and task forces as required, by representing the Division's concerns in participation with other Departments regarding changes or additions to the electrical system; such as added capacity, improve customer reliability, smart grid technology, asset management programs, renewable energy initiatives, etc.
  • Supervises the preparation, updating and monitoring of the Division's budget, while working with Engineering and Planning on availability of resources for forecasted capital projects. Available for emergency calls at all hours (Heco's Emergency Responder) and performs field visits to monitor job performances, work standards, and safety practices.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough working knowledge of the power system and technical expertise.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e. spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
  • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union Agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, General Information Manual, Attendance Improvement Program, etc.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power, Electronics, Communication, or Computer Option) preferred; or equivalent experience gained on the job and subsequent training in a related field of expertise.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals and groups, dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues.
  • Ability to remain flexible and multi-task in a demanding work environment and adapt to constantly and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals.
  • Analytical, computational, organizational, and conceptual skills to handle various projects and programs.

 

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (7+) years experience in electrical engineering or technical experience.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Superintendent, Test [Req ID 10280] position is $120,600.00 to $156,700.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
