BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P CP PAYMENT PROCESSING Department of the P REVENUE MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for the incoming cash flow and daily payment updates to Customer Accounts Receivable through the Customer Information System (“CIS”).  Serves as the primary contact for payment vendors for the Hawaiian Electric Companies (Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, and Hawaii Electric Light; “the Companies”), and is the primary contact for Hawaiian Electric Corporate Accounting on matters relating to bank general ledger accounts.  Ensures accurate and timely reporting of daily cash deposit totals.

 

Supervises assigned personnel and manages and directs activities of the Payment Processing department which include accurate and timely flow of incoming payment interfaces, cashiering, processing of bill payments and credit refunds.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directs and supervises bill payment processing, credit refunds, and cash balancing operations for the Companies.
  • Develops and enhances departmental policies and procedures to optimize efficiencies of unit. 
  • Also responsible for managing and directing the following activities:
    • Proper reconciliation and balancing of cash related clearing accounts for Hawaiian Electric.
    • Resolution of any Hawaiian Electric bank reconciling items received from the bank or Corporate Accounting.
    • Responds to inquiries from potential payment vendors.  Responsible for recommending new payment sources and coordinating the testing and set-up of approved payment vendors.
    • Coordination of the maintenance and support for Payment Processing specific equipment and software.
  • Manages department’s personnel matters, including interviewing, performance appraisals, performance management, employee recognition, disciplinary action, safety, training and development, staffing, and salary administration.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Prepares section’s O&M budget and monthly reports; monitors expenses and workload statistics.
    • Is involved in the planning and administration of unit budget.
    • Ensures adherence to all regulatory, investor, SOX and agency requirements as well as establish departmental policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
    • Prepares weekly/monthly payment processing reports.
    • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the principles of accounting normally acquired through college level courses or equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, database management, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Company’s CIS and financial systems.
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreement.

Experience Requirements

  • Several years (3-5) of supervisory experience.
  • Several years (3-5) experience in the Payment Processing department is highly preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years of related work experience in payment processing operations, accounting, or equivalent.
