BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The P VP PURCHASING Department of the P SUPPORT SERVICES Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)
JOB FUNCTION:
Supervises, plans, and directs the Company's supply chain activities to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees and directs the management of inventory replenishment activities and the analysis of material and equipment requirements to ensure availability and that inventory is maintained at an optimum level of operating efficiency and cost effectiveness. Collaborates with internal customers to keep abreast of Company plans, forecasts, requirements, and supply chain needs.
- Oversees and directs the procurement of goods and/or services to support Company operations. Effectively manages all procurement activities including sourcing, solicitation, evaluation, negotiation, award, contract execution, contract management, and supplier performance review. Recommends, develops, and implements strategic sourcing plans and processes to provide value to the Company. Facilitates category management plans to meet performance objectives.
- Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to, and facilitates the activities of assigned work group. Recommends, develops, and implements Division policies and procedures to achieve Division goals. Reviews and implements work assignments and provides training and coaching. Administers personnel matters including performance review and management and recognition of employee achievements.
- Obtains, analyzes, and interprets supply chain relevant data and benchmarks to measure performance and work activities. Uses analysis results to develop strategies to improve supply chain processes and performance, increase efficiency and productivity, and reduce costs. Monitors supplier performance to assess ability to meet quality and delivery requirements. Develops strong relationships with external vendors. Monitors Division policies and procedures to ensure Division operations are in compliance with SOX requirements.
- Standardizes, manages, and maintains SAP supply chain master data and catalogs. Leads and implements LEAN continuous improvement best practices to enhance and achieve operational excellence with a safety mindset.
- Executes Division initiatives, projects and activities. Must be available after working hours to respond to emergency situations and participate in Company emergency response activities as assigned.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of supply chain management (i.e. procurement/purchasing, contract management, and materials/inventory management) normally acquired through college level courses or the equivalent in training and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of material handling policies, procedures, budgeting, and general company procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of data mining, analysis, and reporting.
- Thorough knowledge of LEAN continuous improvement principles and best practices to achieve operational excellence.
- Thorough knowledge of personal computers and software applications including Microsoft Office (i.e. Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.), relational databases, and ERP systems including SAP Supply Chain Management modules.
- Thorough knowledge of Company policies and procedures contained in such documents as Company/Union agreement, Health & Safety Manual, Corporate Code of Conduct, etc.
- Working knowledge of concepts and principles of electric utility operations, maintenance, and construction that are normally acquired through related experience.
- Working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Familiarity with applicable Federal and State regulations, permits, laws, and codes.

- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
Experience Requirements
- Multiple years (5-7) experience in supply chain management (i.e. procurement/purchasing, contract management, and materials/inventory management), preferably in the electric utility, or closely related field.
- Several (3-5) years of supervisory experience.
