BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P TS STRUCTURAL Department of the H ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT)

JOB FUNCTION:

Assists with sub-professional work in surveying that involves land boundaries, topographic surveys, construction stakeouts, establishing vertical and horizontal controls and other company related surveying services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs basic surveying computations.
• Establishes survey control stations, benchmarks, and boundary markers/monuments.
• Operates and maintains surveying equipment used in the performance of surveying measurements to include but not limited to level rod, prism, GPS receivers, Total Station, and other survey equipment as may become available.
• Cuts underbrush, clears vegetation and debris using various tools such as cane knife, sickle, machete and/or chainsaw, etc.
• Searches and/or digs holes to locate boundary monuments and control points.
• Makes simple topographic and right-of-way maps using current CAD and Survey software.
• Be physically able to perform work assignments located in undeveloped mountainous terrain and hazardous environments. Work in weather conditions ranging from hot, humid, windy, and rainy.
• Assists in land title and other legal land document searching tasks.
• Be able to work for extended periods of standing, walking and hiking.
• Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

Other Responsibilities:

• Assists in operating and maintaining high precision measuring and scanning equipment.
• Performs routine administrative and clerical tasks assigned. Knowledge of current computer operating system required.
• Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
• Operates Company vehicle as required.
• Inventories field supplies and notifies Land Surveyor when supplies need to be reordered.
• Inventories and stocks equipment in field vehicle to ensure adequate items are on hand to perform survey work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH).

Note: Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the TECH.

• Must pass the SRA Oral & Written Directions Test.
• Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues as required.
• Must be able to lift and carry surveying equipment, tools, and field supplies.
• Must be able to wear a backpack with survey equipment and walk over various terrains in field.
• Be physically able to perform surveying work in undeveloped mountainous terrains and hazardous environments. Work in weather conditions ranging from hot, humid, windy, and rainy.
• Must be able to fly in helicopters.
• CL56 Survey Aide:
  • Must pass practical test and written job knowledge test on basic land surveying skills and knowledge.
• CL58 Survey Technician:
  • Must pass a practical test covering computer-aided drafting, the use of a Total Station, data collector and related surveying equipment.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as Survey Aide or equivalent experience.  
• Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

Work Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Location: Honolulu  – Oahu

Wage: $28.24 – $36.19
