The P 2V VP ENERGY DELIVERY Department of the P VP ENERGY DELIVERY Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Executive)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Provides leadership to ensure the physical and operational integrity, safety, and modernization of the company’s transmission and distribution systems.  Includes (but not limited to) engineering, permitting, construction, and maintenance of transmission, distribution, substation, and metering infrastructure. Aligns operational strategies with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.  Leads the implementation of wildfire strategies and serves on the leadership team for the company’s all-hazard emergency response efforts, including wildfire management, mitigation, and prevention.  Drives continuous improvement in safety, service, and operational efficiency.  Leads, mentors, and develops a high performing team committed to the company’s mission and values, collaboratively working across the company for the best outcomes.  Provides a balanced approach to success with stakeholders by providing a roadmap with near term, mid-term, and longer-term priorities to guide the energy delivery team in alignment with the overall strategic plan.  Oversees the formulation, development and implementation of energy delivery strategy to ensure public safety, improve reliability, and improve efficiency of business process and the company’s business needs. Fosters through strong leadership, a culture of safety, ensuring the well-being of employees, customers, and the community remains the highest priority.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Infrastructure Management. Responsible for designing and implementing policies and programs to ensure the reliability and safety of the energy delivery infrastructure and support services. Translates the strategic and tactical business plans into short- and long-range energy delivery strategic and operational plans and evaluates their effectiveness. Develops annual O&M and Capital forecasts and manages the budgets and other financial measures of the energy delivery function.  Oversees the energy delivery budgets and resources required to achieve corporate goals and financial outcomes.  Works collaboratively to prioritize plans to achieve Company goals.  Collaborates to achieve safety goals for our team, our communities and customers.  Creates and executes plans in support of emergency response efforts.
  • Transmission and Distribution System. Improves the safety, reliability, and resilience of the transmission and distribution system.  May serve as an incident commander in response to emergencies using the ICS framework, including wildfires, focused on the safety of the community, customers, and internal response teams.  Leads the implementation of the company’s wildfire mitigation plan.
  • Business Partnership. Responsible for the financial health and stability of the organization. Participates in the development of the Company’s plans and programs as a strategic partner particularly from the perspective of the impact on system reliability, customers and local, state, and federal commissions and legislative committees.
  • External Interface. Manages relationships with government agencies, customers, and the public.  Ensures that all corporate activities and operations within the functional area are carried out in compliance with city, county, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Community Advocacy. Represents the company at various community activities. Remains actively involved with community and professional organizations and associations and maintains relationships with other businesses active in the company's areas of operation. Together with other officers, promotes the public relations and business development of the company.  Serves as a member on such committees or boards as appropriate.
  • Operational Excellence. Develops, implements and enforces energy delivery policies and procedures that improve the overall operation, safety and effectiveness of the company.  Improves the efficiency and effectiveness of key end to end processes that drive safety, productivity, and core results.
  • Team Engagement. Manages and administers personnel matters including performance appraisals, setting of individual performance goals, discipline, hiring, training, coaching and development of direct reports.  Focuses on the development of a high performing team and establishing a positive culture aligned with Company mission, values, and goals.  Builds a sustainable workforce.
  • Enterprise Leadership. Fulfills other duties as assigned or which are usual and common to the position of a company officer.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience. Additional degree in Business Administration or equivalent highly desirable.
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in technical electric utility operations with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of energy delivery technologies, both from a design and operation perspective, including environmental considerations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of electric utilities, with particular emphasis in energy delivery design, construction, operation and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in utility regulatory processes including ratemaking, General Order 7 approvals, Performance-Based Regulation, and evidentiary hearings.
  • Working knowledge of contract law, labor law, collective bargaining contracts, and development processes as they apply to energy delivery systems design, construction, and operation and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of public utilities application for capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, economic, business and political climates.
  • Technical understanding of issues facing the company and industry.
  • Technical knowledge of budgeting and forecasting process (including annual Operating Forecast, Capital Budget, ITS budget, etc.)

Experience Requirements

  • Extensive (10+) years of progressive management experience in energy delivery, system planning, or related area.
  • Extensive (10+) years of proven leadership experience.
  • Several (3-5) years of project management experience relating to energy delivery projects.

Hiring Range: The expected base salary range for this role is $250,000 to $320,000, depending on experience. This position is eligible for participation in the company’s performance-based incentive programs, including short-term and long-term incentives, subject to plan terms, eligibility rules, and governance approvals. Incentive amounts are variable and not guaranteed
