BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M GC COMBINED CYCLE MAINTENANCE Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Performs maintenance work on combined cycle plant equipment. Performs inspections and makes recommendations for operating and maintaining combined cycle plant equipment. Is responsible for the testing and detailed operating adjustments to combined cycle equipment. Also assists in the maintenance of steam plant and diesel plant equipment as required.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs operations or overhaul maintenance, removal, installation and trouble analysis on combined cycle equipment including gas turbines, HRSG's, steam turbines, condensers, water treatment equipment, related auxiliary equipment and instrumentation and controls, including fault analysis of engines, governors, fuel systems, cooling systems, and L.O. systems of complete combined cycle plants. Identifies parts for replacement orders.
  • Conducts hot-sections, level two work, and borescope inspections on gas turbine engines.
  • Works from blueprints, manufacturer's instructions, written and/or oral instructions.
  • Assists in mechanical maintenance and repair of steam plant and diesel plant equipment, as conditions require.
  • Uses hand and power tools and shop equipment as required, including precision tools such as micrometers, gauges, alignment instruments, torque wrenches, etc.
  • Does concrete work including the construction of forms, installation of steel, cement finishing of new capital construction projects, in addition to modifications or additions to existing plants.
  • Directs the work of lower classified personnel on any of the above operations.
  • Performs general maintenance work on fences, property, buildings and structures and fire fighting equipment; performs welding, cutting and pipefitting as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Starts combined cycle units and equipment as required for maintenance purposes.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).

Note: Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the MASS.

  • Ability to identify and distinguish the difference between colors, including shades, hues, and tints. (for electrician related positions)
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Must pass Job Knowledge Test.
  • Must have at least 5 years experience working on borescopes, operating borescope equipment, and evaluating borescope results on GE aeroderivative engines.
  • Must have at least 5 years experience maintaining LM2500 or other GE aeroderivative engines.
  • Must have at least 5 years experience working on Hot-Section repairs on GE aeroderivative engines.
  • Must have successfully completed the following GE training courses:
    • LM 2500 Level 1 Maintenance,
    • LM 2500 Level 2 Cold Section Maintenance, and
    • LM 2500 Level 2 Hot Section Maintenance.
