BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M QS SUBSTATION & METER SUBSTATION Department of the P SUBSTATION & METER Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: Non-Exempt)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Performs semi-skilled work in the clean-up, mitigation, removal and decommissioning of oil filled equipment and other apparatuses used in the distribution of electric energy.  Completes required documentation, including database entry, form entry, sketches and mapping, and other administrative means required to document and communicate related matters.  Utilizes applicable tools and equipment required for job functions.  Assist personnel of other work groups for the installation, maintenance and removal of equipment. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • As needed and in accordance with proper procedures, responds to and cleans up both PCB and non-PCB transformer oil releases.
  • Performs mitigation measures for oil filled equipment and other electrical equipment and apparatus used for the distribution of electric energy.
  • Decommissions transformers and other electrical equipment and apparatus used for the distribution of electric energy.
  • Connects and operates oil filter; receives and disburses oil.
  • Completes documentation requirements associated with work tasks in accordance to Company and other regulatory policy and standards. 
  • Performs work in accordance with the Company’s construction and safety standards and all other applicable rules and regulations: works from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instruction to perform work assignments.
  • Is responsible to ensure public’s safety at work sites.
  • Drives/operates company vehicles including vans, trucks, forklifts, overhead cranes and material handling equipment.  May drive a truck carrying personnel and/or materials.
  • Operates all tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Responsible for the safe and proper operation of all assigned equipment and machinery utilized in performing construction work.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports any discrepancies encountered during job tasks.
  • Uses test equipment and tools of the trade. Mixes and/or places concrete using approved concrete field practices.
  • Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
  • Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Must have State of Hawaii Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Must be able to obtain a Medical Examiner's Certificate.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response Act (HAZWOPER) training.
  • Must be able to qualify for Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Will be required for off-island and after hours work.
  • Must have 2 years minimum work experience in the construction field including but not limited to masonry, carpentry, utility equipment and infrastructure including excavation and trench shoring or equivalent experience.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for MECO's Forklift training within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office products - MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
