BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:
The M GE ELECTRICAL Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 3 Bargaining Unit vacancy available. (Role: NON-EXEMPT)
JOB FUNCTION:
Installs, cleans, and maintains electrical equipment in generating stations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
As a Maintenance Electrician at the maximum level, performs the following duties. As a Maintenance Electrician at lower levels, performs the following duties under direction or direct supervision in accordance with the various stages of training:
- Tests and locates electrical faults such as grounds; poor contacts and broken connections on control, power, and lighting circuits; potential and current transformer wiring; motors and starters; annunciator systems and similar electrical devices on A.C. and D.C. circuits. Tests, maintains, and adjusts automatic remote control and similar devices including D.C. power system.
- Dismantles and inspects generators, motors, circuit breakers and similar equipment. Varnishes windings and rewedges as necessary; replaces parts and tightens loose connections; reassembles and adjusts equipment. Tests transil oil.
- Working from blueprints: installs conduit, pulls in conductors and makes connections; installs and replaces wiring on control switchboard panels.
- Services exciter and collector ring brushes. Inspects and changes taps on transformers, checks connections, observes, and repairs leaks and wipes bushings. Removes bearings on electrical auxiliaries for inspection, cleans entire assembly and reassembles for service. Adjusts disconnect switch contacts. Services circuit breaker operating mechanism and makes breaker trip tests. Services voltage regulators. Works in vicinity of voltage up to and including 11 kv.
- Starts diesels as required for maintenance purposes.
- Sets up instruments for various tests such as hi-potting, megger tests, etc.
- Erects rigging, operates bridge crane, and performs general maintenance such as painting.
- Installs electrical equipment and apparatus for new capital construction projects, in addition to modifications or additions to existing plants.
- Directs the work of lower classified personnel on any or all of the above operations.
- Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs similar and incidental duties as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required.
- Graduate of Electrician Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.
- Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test (Journeyman, 1st yr.)
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
