BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The M GI INSTRUMENT & CONTROL Department of the M GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Supervises all maintenance activities of the instrument and controls systems at Maalaea, Kahului, Lanai, and Molokai Power Plants.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plans and implements maintenance schedules and programs relating to electrical, electronic, and pneumatic power plant equipment. Allocates charges for labor and materials and makes necessary manpower projections for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Coordinates work with the Kahului, Maalaea, Lanai, and Molokai power plant managers or their representatives for maximum station availability, capacity, and efficiency.
  • Supervises the installation of replacement or new equipment within existing facilities. Requisitions spare parts and materials. Performs related review and analysis and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Provides leadership and technical direction to develop and maintain a highly competent, flexible, and motivated workforce for employees under his/her direct supervision (including performance appraisal, teamwork and self-directed workforce, two-way communication, training and development, recognition, safety, and discipline).
  • Responsible for maintaining timecards and related reports.
  • Relieves the electrical maintenance supervisor as needed.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Completion of an Electrical Technician Educational (Instrument and controls) program or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of instrumentation and controls used in power generation.
  • Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations/permits, laws, and codes regarding power plant operations.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as spreadsheets and word processing.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills including the ability to work with a variety of individuals dealing with sensitive, difficult, and confrontational issues.
  • Working knowledge of professional office practices and application.

 

Experience Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years experience as an Instrument and Controls Technician at a journey level or equivalent.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience including Working Foreman or equivalent.
  • Practical experience with generators, motors, motor control centers (MCC), power breakers, power metering, process controls, generator and prime move protective systems, power plant instrumentation, distributed controls system (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and pneumatic controls.
