BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P IX WAIAU STATION MAINTENANCE Department of the P GENERATION Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional Supervisor)

 

JOB FUNCTION:

Directs and oversees the provision of quality maintenance, repair, and construction services to the power generating station with due regard to applicable safety, environmental, and code regulations and laws, and in line with the Company's operational goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides leadership, supervision (including performance review and management; promotion of teamwork and a self-directed workforce; two-way communication; training and development; recognition; and safety) and technical direction, to develop and maintain a highly competent, flexible and motivated workforce. 
  • Directs and provides safe, reliable, timely, and competitive maintenance, repair and construction services to meet or exceed operational expectations through effective job planning, coordination, scheduling, monitoring and controlling.
  • Ensures that all plant maintenance policies and practices, and the implementation of preventive and corrective measures and action plans are in compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations and codes, and Company policies.
  • Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce in support of quality initiatives and Company values. Works with Engineers and Planners to accomplish goals and objectives and maintain improvement in practices and procedures.
  • Promotes two-way communications to ensure a focused and well-informed workforce.
  • Have the knowledge and ability to effectively use the Company’s CMMS to generate daily, weekly, and 4-week work plans for single and multi-craft personnel under their direction.
  • Fosters positive interaction and relationship with external and internal suppliers, customers and employees.
  • Models behaviors consistent with Company values. Works with others to accomplish goals and objectives and maintain improvement in practices and procedures.
  • Promotes teamwork, reinforces and mentors subordinates in the application of improvement tools, techniques, and behaviors to expose and eliminate waste from daily work assignments.
  • Effectively applies the Daily Management System methods to continuously improve the safety, quality, speed, timeliness, and cost of all work processes within assigned span of control.
  • Prepares and manages section’s O&M forecast and adjusts as necessary to meet year-end targets. Generates and approves material and service requisitions to accomplish work objectives.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Thorough familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations /permits, laws and codes.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance in a power generating facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of union contract, Company policies, and Department policies/practices.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (including maintenance and materials management).
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement deployment system, principles, procedures, tools, and desired behaviors.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals dealing with sensitive, difficult or confrontational issues.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, both verbally and in written communications.
  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license.  Must meet the standards for required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. These standards may be adjusted periodically to meet business and safety objectives.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • In-depth equipment troubleshooting and testing skills.
  • Ability to utilize reference materials, drawings, instruction manuals, and historical information.
  • The following skills are required for the specific trades/crafts supervised:

 

Experience Requirements

  • Familiarity with LEAN thinking or continuous improvement experience. Green belt training, additional training and participation in structured problem solving, and experience with rapid improvement events are considered a positive skill set for this position.
  • The following experience is required for the specific trades/crafts supervised:
  • Supervisor – Control Technician:
    • Extensive experience (7 or more years) as a journey person.
    • Minimum 3 years experience as a Supervisor, Working Foreman, or equivalent leadership position.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for the Maintenance Supervisor (Control Technician) - Waiau [Req ID 9642] position is $97,900.00 to $125,000.00. The person selected will be placed according to his/her skills and qualifications.
