The P MD TRAINING Department of the P OPERATIONS PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Professional)
JOB FUNCTION:
Identifies training needs, leads, directs, develops, implements, and monitors technical training with a focus on operational and/or maintenance activities to ensure employees meet training requirements. Provides training and guidance for the safe, reliable, and economic operation of HECO’s transmission and distribution overhead and underground systems. Ensures employees training is in compliance with all company standards and State and Federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Apprentice Training Program – Coordinates and directs modular apprentice training ensuring trainee competency. Evaluates and monitors the progress of the trainees providing the necessary improvements needed to successfully pass the required proficiency tests. Communicates timely and effectively with others on apprentice performance. Develops evaluation tools and proficiency testing to ensure competency. Documents and updates the department’s training procedures and manuals. Develops and administers development opportunities for succession planning.
- On-going Training - Documents and updates the department’s training procedures and manuals. Tracks department training to ensure all aspects of training is current. Oversees various Department training initiatives.
- Trains employees on new/updated operating procedures. Provides support to others on matters related to the development and implementation of training programs.
- Coordinates training programs with Training supervisor, Operations & Planning superintendents, supervisors, and resources planners. Training programs may include positions other than apprentices (ex. Crewleader training, Boom Truck Operators, etc.).
- Researches, analyzes, develops, evaluates, coordinates and schedules training for Senior helpers and Apprentices. Performs administrative functions including: Interviewing & selection, prepares performance appraisals, administers coaching, and maintains department training records.
- Assists in the development, monitoring and analyzing of the division’s annual training budget.
- May temporarily substitute for the Supervisor, and other merit staff in Incident Command events or other emergencies.
- Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Requirements
- Thorough knowledge in the operation and maintenance of transmission, distribution, and substation facilities
- Knowledge of transmission and distribution overhead and underground construction and work standards. The company APM, GIM, Code of Conduct and other rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications.
- Knowledge of the requirements for compliance with State and Federal environmental and safety regulations.
Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated leadership skills including effective written, oral, and listening communication skills; conflict resolution skills; the willingness and ability to train.
- Supports two-way communications to ensure a focused well-informed workforce. Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce to support company initiatives.
- Able to read, comprehend and utilize technical publications such as manufacturer’s instruction manuals, training manuals, blueprints, and electrical single line diagrams.
- Has the ability to solve problems independently and/or with the assistance of others.
- Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
- Ability to handle difficult or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.
- Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license and Class A CDL license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
- The ability to learn forecasting, budgeting, and measuring costs.
Experience Requirements
- Multiple years (5-7) of operational and/or maintenance related experience in an electric utility or equivalent.
- A few years (1-2) of related work experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity.
- A few years (1-2) of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses preferred.
- A few years (1-2) experience training peers or subordinates.
- Qualified or capable of qualifying as crewleader, and or possess supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals in an electrical transmission and distribution setting preferred.
